I've been gone this weekend to OKC with some great friends attending a homeschool convention. The convention has been awesome. My big prayer was that I would find something to help me with Abby. I want to stop feeling frustrated and I know she wants to not be frustrated. I went to a workshop conducted by a neurodevelopmentalist. She was talking about how the brain works, how information is processed, and today she is doing a talk on storage of information. She gave so many helpful tips. One thing she said just jumped out at me. Worksheets are always so frustrating for her for lots of reasons and she suggested that I do every other problem. That way she sees how I problem solve and she won't feel so overwhelmed by the worksheet. I think, DUH! Why did I never think of that? I guess because I thought she needed to do it to learn, but the woman pointed out that if the input (information) is not there and readily accessible, then it's not going to happen. But if I take the time to INPUT, INPUT, INPUT... giving her the answers, then eventually it will be accessible. I can't wait to go back to her next talk today.
I bought some awesome resources and books, and added millions to my wish list. So many things about this trip have been so uplifting and encouraging. I CAN'T wait to get home and love on my husband and kids.
Oh yes, and I am also going to do this!
I have a feeling it is going to REVOLUTIONIZE our home.... yipeee!
